'Passion Flower'
by Gerry
Presently showing in the Haus is the iconic and sexy, Pop Art of Gerry, who lives in Colorado.
In his words: "I am an Artist, Painter, Sculptor, Graphic Designer, Fashion Designer, Musician, Hunter, Fisherman, Farmer, Teacher, Coach, Scientist, Medicine Man + Warrior. My paintings are about Life, Light, Color, Humanity, Sex, Love, Beauty, God. I'm on a continual search for Beauty - real, classic, imagined, created and perceived. I love Color - the blending, blurring, mixing and total amazingness of it. For a long time I pushed around pixels. Now I essentially push around liquid plastic. Realism bordering on abstraction (on a sliding scale). The preponderance of nudes throughout the history of art. In my portraits, the Light of God in the simple beauty of the human face. The power of the gaze. I paint over a sketch very thickly, then manipulate the paint with color shapers, which are pieces of chisel-shaped silicon rubber inserted into paint brush handles. Each painting is done in one session, usually about 10 hours straight. Each painting is just one exercise, one idea, only one stroke of the shaper for each area. I don't rework areas, I think it takes the freshness out.
I spend 90% of the time carefully rendering an image, then spend the other 10% basically obliterating it. But sometimes a completely new persona emerges. Finally, hopefully, paying some sort of irreverent tribute to all of the great painters, craftsmen and thinkers from the past who came up with all the great ideas first."
The blurry stroke and distortion he creates with his palette knife almost disguises the often erotic image and adds a layer of intrigue and modesty all at the same time.
In his works we find distorted images of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Pink, Scarlett Johansson, Amanda Seyfried, Emma Stone, Cameron Diaz, Liv Tyler, Christina Aguilera, Zooey Deschanel, Milla Jovovich, Angelina Jolie, Kristen Stewart, Candice Swanepoel, Whitney Houston, Grace Jones, Jackie Onassis, Princess Grace, Lynda Carter, Kate Upton, tons of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot, Elvis, Arnold Schwarzenneger, Mike Tyson, and Frida Kahlo.
