My fascination with the concept of the Voyeur, and the All Seeing Eye involves many levels.
When I first think of a Voyeur, I picture a lonely creepy man who spies on us and has a sexual perversion watching others engaged in sex and or simply undressing.
I feel revulsion thinking about it.
However, once I peer more deeply into this, I see how we all have a bit of a Voyeur in us.
Those images of other peoples’ body parts we can never forget, seared into our memory.
At that moment, we know we shouldn’t look but it is simply too hard to look away.
We have all walked by homes or buildings and automatically peered into people’s windows, hoping to “innocently” view something that we are not supposed to catch.
It becomes a sort of casual, accidental-on-purpose snapshot of others’ lives.
It’s why we are fascinated by reality tv, porn, or shows and films of other people’s lives.
In turn, we know that we are being watched, by our neighbors and by our government…
It is said that F.U.C.K stands for Fornication Under Consent of the King, which I have also always found to be f’ing fascinating! Does it not have a great fucking ring to it? Especially in Old English lettering?
Thus, I am drawn to the Voyeur concept because of these conflicting layers of creepiness and curious acceptance of glancing at our fellow humans at play.
The shock and awe we are both excited and numbed by.
Voila! feast your curious eyes on my new collection of paintings, VOYEUR!
